It’s Easter: What Christ’s Resurrection Means For Us | Apply His Will

Perhaps at some point you wondered: why did Jesus have to die? Couldn’t there have been another way?

While it’s normal for us to have questions, we must be careful not to cross the line and actually begin to question God. We have to be cautious not to imply that God’s ways aren’t best or that there could have been another course of action that He could have taken which we perceive would have been better. We must remember that our finite minds cannot comprehend the thoughts or ways of the Infinite God.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9

“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” – Deuteronomy 32:4

With that being said – it’s Easter! We are celebrating Christ’s resurrection on the third day after He was crucified. This is a day full of rejoice, encouragement and hope for all believers!

Yet I believe it’s important that we truly understand the price Jesus paid on the cross for us and why He had to die in order for us to have the gift of salvation.

1. There’s a Problem

The problem originated all the way back to the garden when Adam and Eve sinned. They were given free will, but they chose to do things their own way instead of obeying God.

• Our sin separate us relationally from God

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” – Isaiah 59:2

It’s important to note that this verse does not mean that God is walking away from us. However, it does mean that since we are given free will, when we choose to continually turn away from God, He will eventually give us over to our sinful desires.

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.” – Romans 1:24

Now, this doesn’t mean that we can’t return back to God once we repent, but when we intentionally sin and purposefully abandon God then He will allows us to run away (once again, free will).

2. We’re ALL Sinners

We have ALL fallen short of the glory of God. All of us.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” – Romans 3:23

Whether you were being prideful, told a white lie, participated in gossip, had adulterous thoughts about someone, showed jealousy, etc. – we have ALL sinned.

• We know that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)

Due to all of us being sinners we have all done wrong and failed to obey God’s law, therefore, we have all been separated by God and deserve death. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, we ourselves can do to be reunited with God.

However, God’s promise in Genesis gives us tremendous hope…

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.” – Genesis 3:15

At first read you may not truly see any significance in this passage. However, this passage is referring to humanity’s redemption and salvation through Christ. It’s a promise from God from the beginning of time that one day, He would send humanity a Savior who will defeat the serpent.

Until that time, people had to continue to make sacrifices to show their repentance from their sins as well as their faith for God’s future promise coming to pass where He would send someone to bear their penalty.

Jesus was the promise.

Jesus was God’s own begotten son who never disobeyed God and never sinned. He lived a perfect and blameless life so that only He can ever bridge the gap between a Holy sinless God and sinful humanity.

3. The Solution

We’re all sinners. We all deserve the penalty for sin which is death… but Jesus! Jesus died on the cross because we are sinners. He died on the cross which means He took our place! He took the world’s sins upon himself and saved us from the consequences we deserved for our sins.

Once again, the wages of sin is death. Jesus took on God’s judgement and death for us so that we don’t have to.

We have hope!

Through Jesus Christ we all have hope. We each have the opportunity to have a new life in Jesus. His resurrection, Easter, is our hope and joy for the new life for everyone who believes in Him.
